Final meeting of the Working Group on implementation of pre-trial dispute settlement procedures involving judges, 16 October, 2016

Today there was a meeting of the Working Group on implementation of pre-trial dispute settlement procedures involving judges under the frame of the Ukrainian-Canadian Project “Judicial Education for Economic Growth.”

Mr Mykhailo Makarchuk, Secretary of the Commission Disciplinary Chamber, Mrs Polina Kazakevych, Head of International Cooperation Division of the Commission Secretariat, Mr Vasyl Yanitskyi, Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Policy and Justice, Mr Viktor Korolenko, Chief of the Office for Representing the Interests of the President of Ukraine in the Courts of the Presidential Administration, Mr Mykola Onishchuk, Rector of the National School of Judges, chairmen and judges of pilot courts, Mr Ted Zarzeczny, Judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench for Saskatchewan and Manitoba (Canada), Mr Oleg Shakov, Director of the International Programs Division of the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada, Mrs Nataliia Horodetska, Chief Manager of International Programs of the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada, the representatives of the Project took part in the event.

The meeting was aimed to summarize the implementation results of the component “Pre-trial dispute settlement involving the judge” of the Ukrainian-Canadian Project “Judicial Education for Economic Growth.”

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed hope for further fruitful and close cooperation under the new five-year term Ukrainian-Canadian Project on efficiency, transparency and accountability in the judicial system of Ukraine, which will be implemented by the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada and the National Judicial Institute Canada.

The Project "Judicial Education for Economic Growth" is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and has been implemented in Ukraine from May, 2012 by the National Judicial Institute Canada in cooperation with the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada.

In May, 2014 the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine registered this Project, the beneficiary to which is the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine.

The component “Pre-trial dispute settlement involving judge” was implemented by the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada, with the assistance of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine from May, 2012 in four pilot courts of Ukraine: Ivano-Frankivskyi City Court, Ivano-Frankivskyi District Administrative Court, Malynivskyi District Court of Odesa city, Odeskyi District Administrative Court.
