The Chairman of the Commission and representatives of the Council of Europe discussed the amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Judiciary and status of judges", December 17, 2014
December 17, 2014 Mr Sergii Koziakov, the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine met with Mr Christos Giakoumopoulos, the Director of the Directorate of Human Rights of the Council of Europe and Mr Vladimir Ristovski, the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.
Mrs Polina Kazakevich, the Head of the International cooperation division of the Secretariat of the Commission and Mr Andrii Kavakin, the Manager of the CoE Project «Strengthening the independence, efficiency and professionalism of the judiciary in Ukraine» also took part in the meeting.
During the meeting Mr Sergii Koziakov discussed with the representatives of the CoE the amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Judiciary and status of judges" and the Constitution of Ukraine. The Chairman of the Commission stressed the need of effective and phase-in implementation of the reforms in the judicial system of Ukraine.
The participants of the working meeting also discussed the issue of the disciplinary responsibility of judges and enforcement of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in the case «Volkov against Ukraine».
The parties agreed on further cooperation between the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine and the CoE. The Commission will stay the main partner in judicial Projects of the CoE.
