The Commission and the Supervisory Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe outlined ways of cooperation in the judicial reform, 14 September, 2016
During the three-day official visit of the members of the Supervisory Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe in Kyiv, the meeting with the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine management was arranged.
In particular, the event was attended by Mr. Peter Maertens, the Chairman of the Supervisory Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe, Mr. Paul Catchick and Mr. Alain Gillette – members of the Supervisory Advisory Committee, Mrs. Verena Taylor, Director Office of the Directorate General of Programs, Mr. Мårten Ehnberg, Head of Council of Europe Office in Ukraine and from the part of the Commission – Mr. Sergii Koziakov, the Chairman of the Commission and Mrs. Polina Kazakevych, Head of International Cooperation Division.
Supervisory Advisory Committee – is an independent expert advisory body, the purpose of its visit to Ukraine is the analysis and evaluation of the goals set by the Council of Europe Office within the format of activity of the Council of Europe Offices and the implementation of programs / projects of cooperation.
During the meeting, Mr. Sergii Koziakov briefed the European experts with the powers of the Commission, and mentioned the changes that will affect the Commission after the entry into force of the new Law of Ukraine "On the Judiciary and the Status of Judges".
The Chairman of the Commission thanked the European colleagues for the previous constructive and useful measures and assistance of the experts, including the Council of Europe in procedures carried out by the Commission.
According to Mr. Sergii Koziakov opinion, the main challenge that currently the Commission is facing, which he leads, is an organization of the competition to a new Supreme Court. Therefore, it is important that European experts could able to quickly provide their advice and opinions regarding regulations that will follow the competition.
