The cooperation between Ukraine and Canada within the framework of reforming the Ukrainian judicial system, January 15, 2015
January 15, 2015 Mr Sergii Koziakov, Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine met with Mr Oleg Shakov, Director of the International Programs Division of the Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs Canada and Mr Igor Osyka, Manager of the project “Judicial Education for Economic Growth”
The Chairman of the Commission thanked the Office of the Commissioner for the support provided by Canada in reforming the Ukrainian judicial system. Particular attention was paid to the importance of the Ukrainian Canadian project “Judicial Education for Economic Growth”, especially the component of the pre-trial settlement of disputes.
The pre-trial settlement of disputes promotes the public confidence in the judiciary corresponding to the experience from the pilot courts in Ivano-Frankivsk and Odessa oblast. In addition, it saves time and money for the parties.
During the meeting the future directions of cooperation of the Commission and the Office of the Commissioner, including a new Judicial Reform Project were also discussed.
