International round table on European standards in the field of judicial accountability under the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the system of judicial accountability in Ukraine”, 27 October, 2015
Today, on 27 October, 2015, Mr. Mykhailo Makarchuk, Secretary of the Disciplinary Chamber of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, Mr. Pavlo Lutsiuk, Member of the Disciplinary Chamber of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine and Mrs. Polina Kazakevych, Head of International Cooperation Division of the Commission Secretariat took part in the international round table on European standards in judicial accountability.
The event took place during the meeting of national project teams’ network and national partners in reforming judiciary organized by the Council of Europe “Strengthening the system of judicial accountability in Ukraine."
Mr. Ihor Benedysiuk, Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Mr. Mykhailo Tsurkan, Deputy Chairman of the High Administrative Court of Ukraine, Mr. Viktor Horodovenko, Head of the Appellate Court of Zaporizka oblast, Mrs. Hanne Juncher, Head of Justice and Legal Co-operation Department of the Council of Europe, Mrs. Lilit Daneghian, Head of the Judicial Reform Division of Justice and Legal Co-operation Department of the Council of Europe,
Mrs. Olena Lytvynenko, Deputy Head of Council of Europe Office in Ukraine,
Mr. Ðuro Sessa, Council of Europe expert, Judge of the Supreme Court of Republic of Croatia, Vice-President of the Consultative Council of European Judges, Mr. Gerhard Reissner, President of the Austrian Association of Judges, President of the District Court of Floridsdorf (Vienna), Member of the Venice Commission, judges and other representatives of the judiciary of Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Poland participated in the event.
During the first session of the round table the representatives of Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Poland told the participants about compliance of their national systems in judicial accountability with standards of the Council of Europe and those necessary steps that have been made in these countries to harmonize with European legislation in the field of justice.
The second session was devoted to issues of disciplinary sanctions against judges and practice of their application in the abovementioned countries.
