International seminar “High Council of Justice of Ukraine: results, experiences, challenges and solutions for Ukraine” has began, 8-9 October, 2015
Representatives of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine took part in the international seminar on “High Council of Justice of Ukraine: results, experiences, challenges and solutions for Ukraine”, which for two days
(8-9 October) is holding by High Council of Justice with the assistance of international organizations, working in Ukraine for support to justice sector reforms: the US Agency for International Development (USAID) FAIR Justice Project, the EU Project “Support to justice sector reforms in Ukraine,” the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the system of judicial accountability in Ukraine” and Joint European Union and Council of Europe Project “Consolidation of justice sector policy development in Ukraine.”
This workshop is orientational for new members of the High Council of Justice. It is planned to discuss the status and powers of the High Council of Justice in the frame of judicial and constitutional reforms and to introduce the newly appointed members of the High Council of Justice to international standards for appointment of judges and disciplinary proceedings.
The Ukrainian and foreign experts, judges, representatives of similar institutions in Lithuania, Georgia, Romania, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Portugal, France and Italy were invited for participation in the discussion.
Except representatives of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, the first day of the seminar was also taken part by representatives of the Council of Judges of Ukraine, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the judges of the High Administrative Court of Ukraine, officers of the Secretariat of the High Council of Justice, former members of the Interim Commission for verification of judges of courts of general jurisdiction, representatives of the State Judicial Administration Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, international programs and projects.
