32nd plenary meeting for the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) was held
On June 13–14, 2019, in Strasbourg, France, the 32nd plenary session of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice of the Council of Europe (CEPEJ) was held, attended by the Deputy Head of the Department for International Cooperation of the Secretariat of the Commission, the national correspondent of CEPEJ from Ukraine, Yulia Tkachenko.
The honorable guest of the event was a delegation of representatives of the European Court of Human Rights, headed by President Linos-Alexander Sitsilianos. The participants discussed possible areas of cooperation between the ECtHR and the CEPEJ to increase the efficiency and quality of justice in the member states of the Council of Europe.
In addition, a number of important documents in the area of justice were adopted during the meeting, namely: the Toolkit for the Implementation of the Principles of Electronic Justice, the European Directory for the Development of Legislation in the Field of Mediation, and the Guide for the Development and Monitoring of Mediator Training Programs. These documents are intended for the employees of the courts and the Ministries of Justice of the member states of the Council of Europe and are aimed at improving and developing the functioning of judicial systems in these countries.
The meeting presents the CEPEJ Activity Report for 2018 and is informed about the current work of the organization. Particular attention is paid to presentations of recent developments in the justice sector that took place in the member states of the Council of Europe.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the possible strengthening of cooperation with the European Union and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development regarding the procedures for assessing the justice systems in the member states of the Council of Europe and the application of the European Charter of Ethics on the use of artificial intelligence in judicial systems..
In addition, we note that the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Sergii Koziakov is currently a member of CEPEJ from Ukraine.

The European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) was established on September 18, 2002, in accordance with Resolution (2002) 12 of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The CEPEJ consists of 47 member states of the Council of Europe. The purpose of CEPEJ work is to increase the efficiency of the work of the bodies in the field of justice in the context of the implementation of the standards and recommendations of the Council of Europe.
It is the initiator of many studies in this field, in particular of a comparative nature, prepares draft recommendations aimed at promoting the application of various CE documents in order to combine the two key principles of justice: equity and effectiveness.
