A bilateral working meeting with the Council of Europe expert Mrs. Diana Kovacheva took place in the Commission

On 22 March 2017 the members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Mykhailo Makarchuk, Mr. Andrii Vasylenko,  Mr. Taras Lukash, Mr. Volodymyr Butenko and Mr. Sergii Prylypko held a bilateral working meeting with the Deputy Ombudsman of Bulgaria, Doctor of international law and international relations, the international expert of the Council of Europe Ms. Diana Kovatcheva.

The parties emphasized the importance of the involving the public to the process of selection of judges and discussed the role of the Public Integrity Council during the qualification assessment of judges and candidates for this position by the Commission, as well as the procedural aspects of the cooperation between the Public Council on Integrity and the Commission according to the standards of the Council of Europe.

The parties also discussed the algorithm of collecting and processing information by the Public Integrity Council and the legal implications of providing the latest information and opinions on candidates for the positions of judges in the framework of the competition to the Supreme Court.

The meeting was organized with the assistance of the Council of Europe Project “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine”.
