A regular meeting of representatives of international technical assistance projects on strengthening the Rule of Law

On December 2, 2020, the online regular meeting of representatives of international assistance projects on strengthening the Rule of Law organized by the USAID New Justice Program took place.

The representatives of the highest state authorities of Ukraine, international organizations and international technical assistance projects participated in the event.

Maaike de Langen, Program Lead of the Justice for All, Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, addressed the participants of the event. She provided an overview of the human-centered approach to justice and said that it is based on people’s needs and designed to ensure equal access to justice for all, regardless of income, gender, age, race or ethnicity and other characteristics. In her presentation, Maaike de Langen noted that today 5.1 billion people have been deprived of justice, and about 1.5 billion people have legal problems that they cannot resolve. To address these issues, it is necessary to increase the legal capacity of people and communities, to ensure access to people-centered justice services and fair outcomes.

Also, Valentyna Mudrik, Civil Society Specialist of the USAID New Justice Program, said that a people-centered approach could help to address the problems of access to justice which people face during the pandemic and overcoming the negative consequences of institutional and economic nature.

The Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine was represented by the Head of the Legal Department of the Secretariat of the Commission Natalia Kidina and Acting Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Secretariat of the Commission Denys Kuznetsov.
