Commission considers complaints against judges who were adopting decisions during Revolution of Dignity. 4 judges have already been recommended for dismissal

The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine started to work in new composition on 9 December, 2014. One of the challenges the Commission faced with were complaints about misconduct of judges who adopted decisions against participants of mass actions of public protest in Ukraine in the period from 21 November, 2013 to 21 February, 2014.

The Commission received 84 foregoing complaints from the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, people’s deputies of Ukraine, PO “Maidan public control” and Ukrainian Bar Association. Moreover, as per April 2015 the HQCJU started to receive cases documents on Euromaidan and Automaidan from Interim Special Commission for Checking Judges of General Jurisdiction.

Up to date, the Commission has opened 47 disciplinary cases against judges who adopted decisions against participants of mass actions of public protest.

As a result of disciplinary proceedings, the HQCJU has decided to send to the High Council of Justice recommendations for a decision on forwarding motions on dismissal of 4 judges, seeing in their activity elements of oath violation.

Consideration of other disciplinary cases against judges who was adopting decisions against participants of mass actions of public protest during the Revolution of Dignity will be held by the Commission after the check and clarification of all the circumstances.
