Commission’s Management held working meeting with the Ambassador of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ukraine
On 01 February 2018, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine hosted the working meeting with the Ambassador of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ukraine Mr. Ole T. Horpestad. First Secretary of the Ambassador Mr. Sigbjørn Litland and Counsellor for Development Cooperation Mr. Petter Bauck have also participated in the meeting.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine was represented by the Chairman Mr. Sergii Koziakov, the member of the Qualification Chamber
Mr. Andriy Vasylenko and the member of the Chamber on Selection and Public Service of Judges Mr. Andrii Kozlov.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Commission talked about the structure and role of the HQCJU in the system of judicial bodies of Ukraine. He also briefed the guests on the staffing procedures that the Commission carried out in 2017. It was, inter alia, the competition to the Supreme Court, judicial candidates’ selection for the positions of local courts judges, qualification assessment for compliance with the position of a judge and the launch of the competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property. The Chairman of the HQCJU specified the importance of the international partners’ of the Commission contribution in providing of expert assistance and observance of these procedures.
In addition, the parties discussed the Commission’s working plan for 2018. Thus, the priority tasks are the conducting of the qualification assessment of candidates for the position of a judge of second and third selections, secondment and transfer of judges, the holding of competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property, the second contest to the Supreme Court. It is not excluded, noted
Mr. Sergii Koziakov, that after the adoption by the Parliament of Ukraine of the Law “On the High Anti-Corruption Court”, the Commission will also be tasked to conduct the competition to this court and stressed that in 2018 the Commission should approve about 11,000 personnel decisions.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue communication on judicial reform matters and Commission activities as well as actively cooperate in building a strong, democratic and prosperous Ukraine.
