Competition to the Supreme Court: 13 candidates did not confirm the ability to administer justice according to the results of five plenary sessions

The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine in full keeps considering the issue on confirmation of compliance of the candidates for the positions of judges of the cassation courts as the part of the Supreme Court to administer justice. As of today, five sessions took place.

The Commission investigated whether the candidates, regarding which the PIC provided opinions, comply with the criteria of integrity and professional ethics.  

Subsequent to the results of the sessions, the HQCJU in full adopted the decision regarding 43 candidates: it found 13 candidates as such that did not confirm their ability to administer justice at the Supreme Court; the other 30 candidates will continue to participate in the competition. Regarding the remaining 4 candidates, the consideration of the opinions was terminated due to the recall by the Public Integrity Council of its own opinions.

The next plenary sessions will be held on June 21 and 22, 2017.

Please take a note that after the interviews with the candidates the procedures of the competitive selection of the candidates were completed for 62,7 % (239 persons). Regarding this, a break has been announced due to the formation of the general rating. There are 155 judges, 33 lawyers, 32 academics and 19 candidates with total experience among these candidates.

During the interviews, the Chambers of the HQCJU decided on the noncompliance to administer justice at the Supreme Court regarding the 7,1 % (27) of candidates. Such decision was adopted for 23 judges, three lawyers and one academic.

In general, 36 judges of the high specialized courts and the functioning Supreme Court of Ukraine left the competition throughout its stages. The Commission stopped the participation of five candidates in the competition because of the criminal proceedings opening.
