First meeting of the Members of HQCJU with the Members of the Public Council of International Experts was held
The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine started cooperating with the Public Council of International Experts in the framework of the competition for the positions of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court. On November 27, 2018 the first meeting of the HQCJU Members with the Members of the PCIE and the representatives of its Secretariat took place.
The Members of the Commission welcomed international experts in Ukraine and informed the colleagues on the peculiarities of the procedures falling within the purview of the HQCJU. In particular, Mr. Sergii Koziakov told about the results of Commission’s activities in the framework of the judiciary reform, namely the establishment and commencement of functioning of the Supreme Court as well as the competitions which were currently carried out by the Commission.
Also, the members of the Commission informed the experts about the course of the competition to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
The parties discussed technical aspects of the PCIE functioning, the peculiarities of the interaction between the Council and the Commission and agreed on further steps to ensure the most transparent, impartial and open selection of judges to the specialized anti-corruption court.
The meeting, which lasted for about four hours, took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.
The representatives of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI), the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) and the US Embassy to Ukraine also participated in the discussion.
