Member of the Commission Mr. Stanislav Shchotka participated in the discussion on the legal status of judges' assistants and their place in the judicial system
On 7 February 2018, the Secretary of the Qualification Chamber of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Stanislav Shchotka participated in an expert discussion on “Judges’ Assistants: Legal Status and their Place in the Judicial System” organized by the “CHESNO” Movement as a part of the “CHESNO” Campaign. The main topic of the discussion was the corruption risks related to the lack of judges’ assistants of the status of civil servants, the tools for controlling the activities of judges’ assistants and the procedure for their selection.
Mr. Stanislav Shchotka, retired judge, told about his own experience with his assistants. Back in the day, he used to be guided by the professionalism and the level of knowledge of the candidates in selecting his assistants and conducted individual tests. Mr. Stanislav Shchotka took into account not only the level of theoretical knowledge of the candidates, but also their professional ambitions, the application of their knowledge and experience on the merits.
The representatives of the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the High Courts’ Secretariats, international experts, the relevant NGOs’ experts, law specialists took part in the event.
