Member of the Commission took part in an expert discussion on the compliance of the Law of Ukraine “On the High Council of Justice” and the Regulations of the High Council of Justice with the standards of the Council of Europe
On 24 February 2017 the member of the Qualification Chamber of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Andrii Vasylenko took part in the expert discussion of the Ukrainian Law “On the High Council of Justice” and of the Rules of Procedure of the High Council of Justice, organized by the CoE Project “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine”.
The event was also attended by the representatives of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, the Judicial Reform Council, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy and Justice, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases, The Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine, the Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine, the High Council of Justice, the Council of Judges of Ukraine, prosecutor offices, public organizations, experts and representatives of the Council of Europe Project and other international technical assistance projects, which are currently operating in Ukraine.
The meeting began with a discussion of the CoE expert assessment on the compliance the standards of the Council of Europe with the Law of Ukraine “On the High Council of Justice” and the Rules of Procedure of the High Council of Justice. During the discussion, experts outlined the ways of improving these normative legal acts.
The participants also considered the issue of the impact of these legal acts on Ukraine's implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in cases “Oleksandr Volkov vs. Ukraine” and “Kulykov and others v. Ukraine”.
