Mr. Sergii Koziakov briefed the participants of the judicial forum on the achievements of the Commission within the framework of judiciary reform
On November 16, 2018, Mr. Sergii Koziakov, Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine took part in VII Judicial Forum “Judicial System: Global and National Transformation”, where the procedures carried out by the Commission within the framework of judicial reform were actively discussed.
The HQCJ Chairman briefed the participants on the work performed in the framework of the Commission’s mandate. In particular, he told about the etablishment of new specialized courts: the High Anti-Corruption Court and the High Court on Intellectual Property.And also about the second competition to the Supreme Court.
“We are setting a new level of records. In one month, we carried out three huge competitions: to the Supreme Court, to the High Anti-Corruption Court and to the High Court on Intellectual Property.We have never had anything like this in the history of Ukraine”, said Mr. Sergii Koziakov and briefed the participants on the main figures.
“Having not yet started the procedure, we encountered first manipulative statements, in particular, that the candidates would not apply for the competition. And now look, we have competition rates about 8 people for one position. The professional environment trusts our procedures this is evident from the number of “non-judge” candidates. Their number is increasing,” commented the Chairman of the Commission.
Mr. Sergii Koziakov also told about the results of the first wave of judges’ qualification evaluation.
The event was organized by the Ukrainian Bar Association together with the Council of Europe projects “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine” and “Supporting Ukraine in the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights”.
