Mr. Taras Lukash, Member of the Commission, informed the participants of the III International Forum “Innovation Market” about the course of the competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property
On November 23, 2018, Mr. Taras Lukash, Member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, took part in the conference “Intellectual Property: Quo Vadis?” that took place within the framework of the III International Forum “Innovation Market”.
Mr. Taras Lukash spoke in the panel discussion “Judiciary: Issues of the Establishment and Functioning of the High Specialized Court on Intellectual Property”, in particular, describing the course of the competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property.
“The establishment of the High Court on Intellectual Property is a relevant issue for the effective protection of rights both of national and foreign investors. Judges having special knowledge in this narrow area will contribute to the improvement of the quality of justice”, said the Member of the Commission.
Mr. Taras Lukash informed the participants of the event about the results of the first stage of the competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property, taking the exam. According to the results of the examination conducted by the Commission on October 3, 2018, 63 candidates for the judicial positions to the High Court on Intellectual Property successfully passed the exam and continued to participate in the competition. He also reminded that the competition to the Appeal Chamber of the High Court on Intellectual Property announced by the Commission on October 5, 2018, was still ongoing.
In the course of the discussion the following issues were discussed: the training of judges specializing in disputes in the field of intellectual property, foreign experience in handling such disputes and the impact of institutional changes on the protection of intellectual property rights in Ukraine.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Supreme Court, the High Council of Justice, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the US Embassy to Ukraine, the Queen Mary University of London Technical Assistance Project supported by the UK government to help set up the High IP Court in Ukraine, patent attorneys, national and international experts.
