Profession of a judge is becoming female one in Ukraine
According to the results of the competition for the position of a judge of local general courts, conducted by the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, there are 310 women and only 157 men among its winners.
It seems that the judge’s profession is becoming a female one in Ukraine, as there are almost twice as many women among 467 competition winners announced on August 7, 2019, by the HQCJU. For a long time, it was thought that the wearers of mantles were men, but the situation is changing and today there are 2820 women and 2579 men among 5399 judges.
It is interesting that in the two competitions to the Supreme Court conducted by the HQCJU the majority among the appointed judges were men: in the first competition (64 men and 54 women), in the second (45 men and 30 women). Also, the majority in the competition were men who were appointed judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court: 24 men and 14 women.
It should be noted that among the winners of this year selection of judges the vast majority, namely 380 persons are lawyers aged 30-39 years. Only two persons are over 50 years old. The age of the youngest winner of the competition is the same among men and women – 31 years. But the oldest man is 53 years old and the woman is 51 years old.
We are recalling that on August 7, 2019, the selection of candidates was completed and the HQCJU approved the rating of participants of the competition for 505 vacant judicial positions in local general courts and gave recommendations to 467 candidates for the appointment as judges.
