Round table on "The role of attorney in disciplinary proceedings against judges"

Mr Mykhailo Makarchuk, Secretary of the Disciplinary Chamber of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine took part in the round table "The role of attorney in disciplinary proceedings against judges" was held on May 20, 2015.

The participants of the event discussed the disciplinary responsibility of judges, the procedure for disciplinary proceedings and the role of the attorney in it.

The most debatable issue of the discussion was the application of Paragraph 1 of Article 92 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Judicial System and Status of Judges", which defines the grounds for bringing judges to disciplinary liability.

Mr Makarchuk drew attention of the participants to the Opinions №1 (2001), №3 (2002) and №10 (2007) of the Consultative Council of European Judges (CCJE). The Commission will take account of these recommendations when deciding on disciplinary responsibility of judges.

The round table was attended by the representatives of judicial branch, autonomous judicial bodies, lawyers and attorneys.
