Second day of the seminar-workshop “Improving the Courts Information Policy”
On 17 April 2018, the workshop “Improving the Courts Information Policy”, which is being held in Kyiv with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “New Justice” Program, continued its work.
One of the USAID “New Justice” Program main objectives is to promote increased accountability and the level of transparency of the judiciary.
The key topic of the event was the discussion on the importance of ensuring effective interaction between judicial authorities and the media and civil society institutions.
In particular, the following topics were considered at the workshop:
- interaction of courts with the media;
- interaction of courts with the public;
- interaction of courts with the media during the high-profile cases;
- ethical aspects of courts and judges using social networks.
The participants of the meeting shared their experience on the above-mentioned issues and outlined the most important aspects of solving problems in the interaction of the judiciary with the public and the media in particular.
Ms. Leah Gurowitz, Director of Media and Public Relations of D.C. courts, Federal District of Columbia, delivered a speech.
We are recalling that the Supreme Court judges-speakers, members of the High Council of Justice, the Council of Judges of Ukraine, officials of the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine and the National School of Judges of Ukraine, press secretaries of the courts of Ukraine and employees of the communication departments of the bodies of judiciary and judicial self-government participated in the workshop.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine at the second day of the event was represented by Ms. Galyna Terpiak, Deputy Head of International Cooperation Division of the Commission’s Secretariat, Ms. Yana Korsunska, Head of the Sector of Patronage Service of the Commission’s Chairman, Ms. Svitlana Maksymova, Head Specialist of the Sector for Working Support of the Commission Leadership.
