The Commission was visited by the representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine Mr. Regis Brillat
On May 17, 2017 the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Koziakov held a working meeting with the Special Advisor of the Council of Europe Secretary General for Ukraine Mr. Regis Brillat and the Manager of the CoE Project “Support to the Implementation of the Judicial Reform in Ukraine” Mr. Andrii Kavakin.
The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the competition for occupying a position of a judgeof cassation courts within the Supreme Court. In particular, during the discussion, the Chairman of the Commission described the features of the procedures and interim results of each stage of the competition. He also stated that this competition is unprecedented not only in its scope but also in the transparency of the procedures, as any interested person can observe the competition. Mr. Sergii Koziakov also thanked the Council of Europe for the expert support.
Mr. Regis Brillat appreciated the steps taken by the Commission to reform the judiciary according to its powers. He assured that the Council of Europe closely observes the course of Ukraine's judicial reform and wished the Commission a successful end of the competition.
In addition, the European high-ranking official expressed thereadiness of the Council of Europe to continue providing expert support to the Commission in its work and, in particular, to the recently announced selection of candidates to the position of a judge of a local court.
