The Council of Europe Project “Consolidating Ukraine’s Justice Sector Reform” presented the Bar Needs Assessment Report in the context of current challenges of the Bar

On 14th December 2017, within the framework of the activities of the Council of Europe Project “Consolidating Ukraine’s Justice Sector Reform” the presentation of the Needs Assessment Report in the context of current challenges was held. The report was prepared by international experts of the Council of Europe.

The member of the Chamber for Selection and Public Service of Judges of the Commission Mr. Pavlo Lutsyuk took part in the event.

The Chairman of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Mr. Mortege Enberg, the Chairman of the Ukrainian National Bar Association Ms. Lidia Izovitova, the Chief of Party of the USAID “New Justice” Program Mr. David Michael Vaughn and Head of the Eastern Partnership Department of the Council of Europe Directorate on Human Rights and Rule of Law Mr. Tigran Karapetyan gave the speech.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Council of Europe, the European Union Delegation to Ukraine, Presidential Administration/Judicial Reform Council, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, judiciary, the Bar, law enforcement agencies, other actors of the justice sector, civil society, international initiatives and other partners.

The general purpose of the Council of Europe Project “Consolidating Ukraine’s Justice Sector Reform” is to unite Ukraine's efforts in implementing justice reform, assist in measuring the impact of reforms and the contribution of the Council of Europe and other international actors. In addition, the Project will inform about the progress of reforms and urgent needs. Another competence of the Project is the needs assessment in respect of the Ukrainian National Bar Association in order to further assist Ukraine in the development of an independent and professional advocacy.
