The meeting with the Resident Advisor of the Twinning Project “Strengthening the Institutional capacity of the Supreme Court of Ukraine in the sphere of human rights protection at the national level” took place

On 20 April 2017 Ms. Olena Ponomarenko, the Head of the Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges, held the working meeting with Ms. Jautrite Briede, the Resident Advisor of the Twinning Project “Strengthening the Institutional capacity of the Supreme Court of Ukraine in the sphere of human rights protection at the national level”, and Mr. Oleksandr Bidnyi, the Assistant to the Resident Twinning Adviser.

The topic of discussion was the organization by the Project of training for the winners of the competition to the Supreme Court with the participation of foreign experts – judgesof the Supreme Courts of the EU member-states.

The parties discussed the procedure of holding the competition to the Supreme Court and agreed on the possible dates of the training. In addition, the guests thanked the representatives of the Commission for the informative meeting and wished success at the final stage of the competition – interviewswith candidates for the positions of judges of cassation courts within the Supreme Court.

The implementation of the Twinning Project “Strengthening the Institutional capacity of the Supreme Court of Ukraine in the sphere of human rights protection at the national level” started on March 6, 2017.

The goal of the Project is to strengthen the independence and efficiency of the judiciary through the implementation of European standards, as well as to enhance the institutional capacity of the Supreme Court, which will allow to form a unified judicial practice in the administration of justice and will contribute to the strengthening of the rule of law in Ukraine.
