The members of the Commission held working meeting with the University of South Carolina and the USAID “New Justice” Program representatives
On 31 January 2018, the members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine hosted the working meeting with representatives of the University of South Carolina and the USAID “New Justice” Program.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the thematic content of the two-week program on law, which in the future should be launched between the University of South Carolina and one of the Ukrainian law universities.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Commission
Mr. Sergii Koziakov, member of the Commission’s Chamber for Selection and Public Service of Judges Mr. Serhii Prylypko, Legal and Judicial Specialist of the USAID “New Justice” Program Mr. Ashot Agaian, Experts of the Rule of Law Collaborative at the University of South Carolina Mr. Steven Austermiller and
Mr. Gregory Gisvold.
In order to implement modern teaching methods directed on building and developing skills to apply the Rule of Law requirements in practice, the USAID “New Justice” Program intends to provide support in the development of a Rule of Law Certificate Program for senior law students and representatives of legal professions.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the needs and peculiarities of the Ukrainian legal system, in particular, the establishment of the Rule of Law as a defining measure for the administration of justice within the framework of judicial reform in Ukraine.
In addition, representatives of the Commission proposed to pay attention to teaching the practical aspects of the legal profession, in particular, studying by students of the future legal writing fundamentals course and the formation of a comprehensive understanding of the judicial proceeding stages.

The purpose of the Program is to support the judiciary, Government, Parliament, Civil Society and people of Ukraine in the implementation of judicial reform given the constitutional amendments of 2016 and The Ukraine Judiciary Development Strategy 2015–2020.
The Program builds on the achievements of previous USAID projects “Ukraine: Rule of Law” and “Fair Justice” and uses their achievements for coordination of close cooperation with Ukrainian partners, USAID and
US Government projects and other projects of international donor organizations in Ukraine.
