The representatives of the foreign institutions and international projects monitor interviews with candidates to the Supreme Court
On 21 April 2017, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine started the final stage of the competition for occupying a position of a judgeof cassation courts within the Supreme Court – interviewing candidates.
In order to ensure the principle of transparency of the competition, the Commission organized a live broadcast on the official Youtube channel and allocated a specially equipped room, where all interested persons are able to observe interviews with candidates to the positions of judges to the Supreme Court.
Journalists, as well as the representatives of the foreign Diplomatic Missions and international technical assistance projects, expressed their desire to observe the interview process in the Commission.
In particular, during the first three days, the representatives of the Embassies of Japan and Germany in Ukraine, the European Union Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine” and the Co-ordinator of the OSCE Project “Ensuring respect for human rights in the administration of justice” in Ukraine observed interviews.
Mr. Wolfgang Bindseil, Deputy Head of the German Embassy, supported the steps taken by the Commission to ensure the principle of transparency of its procedures.
“This competition is a fundamental event that is extremely important for the entire Ukrainian society. I believe that in such procedures it is important to ensure maximum transparency. I want to note that the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine has made a really big step in this direction. I am convinced of the benefit of involving experts and the public in this process, who have the opportunity to observe the interviews through the Internet”, - stated Mr. Wolfgang Bindseil.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine expresses gratitude to the representatives of the international community in Ukraine for their interest to the process of interviewing candidates to the Supreme Court and the competition in general. The Commission invites the representatives of the international organizations, projects, and foreign institutions to continue monitoring this process. The Commission is open to comments in order to improve the procedures of the competition in the future.
