The results of the first competition to the Supreme Court were discussed in Kharkiv and Dnipro

During the last two days, the results of the first competition to the Supreme Court were discussed in Kharkiv and Dnipro. The member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Taras Lukash took part in the meetings.

Such regional meetings aimed to continue an important educational work for active lawyers, academicians and international partners in the frameworks of judicial reform.

In particular, advocates have discussed the perspectives of the functioning of the new Supreme Court and the role of testing personal moral and psychological qualities and general abilities of candidates, provided suggestions on the definition of professional qualities of candidates during the test. Candidates and members of the Commission discussed the features of the competition process and shared personal impressions from the interview.

“I believe that respect for a person and his dignity shall be the fundamental keynote in a work of executive and judicial branches of government. This is the approach that has been used by the Commission during the competition to the Supreme Court and directly during the interviews process with the candidates. At present the Commission analyzes all procedures in order to improve them, taking into account the experience gained during the competition, as well as remarks and suggestions” – has noted Mr. Taras Lukash.

He also added that the Commission would continue to make every effort for the procedures improvement and is expecting, in return, the increase of candidates willing to participate in the selections and next competitions, in particular among the advocates and academicians.

It should be reminded that the organizers of the roundtable “The Supreme Court: the results of the first competition” are the Ukrainian Bar Association and the EU Project “Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine”.
