Regular meeting of the Commission representatives with the Council of Europe expert Mr. Gerhard Reissner, 29 October, 2015
The regular meeting of the Commission with the Council of Europe Expert and Member of the Venice Commission took place on 29 October, 2015.
Mr. Andrii Vasylenko, Member of the Qualification Chamber of the Commission, Mr. Roman Savchuk, Director of Professional Qualification of Judges and Judicial Candidates Department of the Commission Secretariat, Mrs. Anna Hannyk, Division of Organizational and Statistical and Analytical Work of the Commission Secretariat took part in the meeting.
During the event, participants discussed the preliminary legal opinion of the Council of Europe expert Mr. Gerhard Reissner on compliance of regulation regarding the qualification assessment of judges with European standards of the Commission.
The Council of Europe expert Mr. Gerhard Reissner marked positively the revised Commission Regulation on procedure and methodology of qualification assessment of judges.
The sides shared views on the specifics of qualification assessment of judges of different specialization. The criteria for the assessment of judges became additional topic for discussion.
Mr Andrii Vasylenko, Member of the Qualification Chamber of the Commission thanked the expert for detailed analysis of the Regulation and paid attention to the methods of assessment of judges.

The Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the system of judicial accountability in Ukraine” was launched in January, 2015 and will have been operating until December, 2015.
The objectives of the Council of Europe Project are the following:
1. Development and adoption of legislative amendments which are necessary as general measures within the enforcement by Ukraine of the European Court of Human Rights judgments in cases “Oleksandr Volkov v. Ukraine” and “Salov v. Ukraine”
2. Improvement of rules and procedures of disciplinary bodies to ensure fair and effective disciplinary cases relating to complaints against judges.
