Chairman of the Commission participated in the round table on: “Prosecutors’ career management: Improving the Ukrainian System in the Light of European Standards and Best Practices”

On 13 February 2018, the round table on “Prosecutors’ career management: Improving the Ukrainian System in the Light of European Standards and Best Practices”  organized by the Council of Europe Project “Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine” was held.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the new system of the selection, promotion and transfer of prosecutors in accordance with the provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On the Office of the Public Prosecutor”, as well as the definition of the further steps for its implementation, taking into account the recognized latest standards in this area, the experience of other countries and the Ukrainian experience.

During the round table, the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Koziakov gave a speech on the novelties in the selection, promotion and transfer of judges. In particular, the Commission’s Chairman told about the results of the competition to the Supreme Court, the launch of the competition to the High Court on Intellectual Property and the peculiarities of the procedure of the qualification assessment of judges for their position compliance.

The representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the other bodies of the criminal justice system, international and national experts, representatives of international organizations took part in the event.

The Council of Europe Project “Continued Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine” operates in Ukraine since 1 September 2015.

The purpose of the Project is to provide support to the Ukrainian Public Prosecution Service and Free Legal Aid System in the implementation of the criminal justice reform in accordance with best practices and European standards.

The attainment of the Project objective shall contribute to strengthening democratic processes in Ukraine through the development of a criminal justice system which is fair, efficient and respectful of human rights and fundamental freedoms; effective in the fight against criminality; free of corruption and accountable at both institutional and individual levels; trusted by the society.
