Information on the number of judges of general jurisdiction courts
Due to the numerous requests to the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine for information on the number of positions of judges in general jurisdiction courts, including vacancies, the Commission informs as following.
As of 1 March 2016 according to the Commission's records the total number of judges in local courts is 6,291 judges, in Courts of Appeal – 2,415 judges, in High Specialized Courts – 317 judges, in the Supreme Court of Ukraine – 48 judges.
The actual number of current judges of local courts is equal to 5,400 judges, Courts of Appeal – 1,921 judges, Specialized Courts – 253 judges, the Supreme Court of Ukraine – 38 judges.
As of 1 March 2016 in connection with termination of a five-year appointment term, 969 judges of general jurisdiction local courts are not administering justice, in respect of 699 judges, starting 2013, the Commission has been made submissions to the Parliament of Ukraine on lifetime election to the office.
