Meeting of the Ukrainian part of the Parliamentary Committee of Association between Ukraine and the EU took place
On March 11, 2019, a meeting of the Ukrainian part of the Parliamentary Committee of Association between Ukraine and the European Union, devoted to the preparation for the Ninth Meeting of the Parliamentary Committee of Association which will be held on March 13-14, took place in Kyiv.
Representatives of the Government Office for Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine informed members of the Ukrainian delegation as to implementation of the Association Agreement and harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with European standards, cooperation in economic field within the Association Agreement, implementation of the Minsk Accords, reforms in energy sector, judicial system, public administration, decentralization process and state social standards and guarantees for people.
Mr. Sergii Koziakov, Chairman of the Commission, told the participants about the results of the judicial system reform within the purview of the HQCJ, in particular, about conducting competitions to the Supreme Court, to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court announced by the Commission on August 02, 2018.
Thus, on March 06, 2019, the HQCJ approved the ratings of candidates for vacant positions of judges to the cassation courts within the Supreme Court and to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court. On the same day, the Commission adopted decisions to submit recommendations to the High Council of Justice on the appointment of candidates for the positions of judges of the cassation courts within the Supreme Court, of the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court within the framework of these competitions.
It should be recalled that the Parliamentary Association Committee was established under Article 467 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. It is a forum for members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament to hold meetings and exchange opinions. The Committee consists of members of the Parliament of Ukraine and members of the European Parliament. Meetings of the Parliamentary Association Committee are held at times determined directly by the Committee.
