Meeting with the Director of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation

On March 27, 2019, a working meeting of Mr. Sergii Koziakov, Chairman of the Commission and Ms. Yuliia Tkachenko, Deputy Head of International Cooperation Department of the Commission Secretariat with the delegation of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation headed by its Director  Dr. Stefan Hülshörsterat took place at the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine.

The parties discussed the selection process and preliminary timeframes of competitions for taking vacant positions of judges of the High Court on Intellectual Property and the Appeal Chamber of this court.

In course of the discussion, German experts noted that the processes currently taking place in the Ukrainian judicial system are unique and said that the current work of bodies of the judiciary in the field of judicial career in Ukraine went further than in Western European countries.

Moreover, the participants outlined ways of further cooperation, in particular, as to holding trainings for the winners of the competition.

On the part of foreign delegation, Mr. Wolfram Hertig, Senior Project Manager for Ukraine of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation and Mr. Hennadii Ryzhkov, Legal Advisor to the Foundation also attended the meeting.

For more than 25 years the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) has (as a non-profit organization) assisted states in developing rule-of-law structures and implementing functioning market economy structures. In doing so, it constantly develops its strategies and concepts further and adapts them to other states and regions. The IRZ works both by order of and with funding from the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and through project-related funds by the Federal Foreign Office, amongst others.
