Members of the Commission met with the Director of the Research Institute of Intellectual Property

On 19th of October 2017, the members of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine met with the Director of the Research Institute of Intellectual Property of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Ms. Olena Orliuk.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the practical aspects of the creation of the High Court on Intellectual Property, as well as the experience of European countries on this issue.

During the event, the Director of the Institute told representatives of the Commission about national and international standards for the protection of intellectual property rights, the state of the court practice in cases of infringement of intellectual property rights in Ukraine, and informed the participants on the formation and qualification requirements for candidates for positions of judges in patent courts of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Ms. Orliuk paid special attention to the German model of the specialized court, noticed that the Federal Patent Court of the Federal Republic of Germany from among the courts of other
EU member states are the closest to the future High Court of Intellectual Property which should be established in Ukraine. Also, Ms. Olena Orliuk informed on the processes of creation and competence of the European Union Patent Court.

The members of the Commission, inspectors, and employees of the Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine took part in the event.
