Members of the HQCJ spoke at the workshop on the design of the model training course “Lawyer‘s Professional Responsibility”

“A judge must make every effort to ensure, in the opinion of a prudent, law-abiding and informed person, the impeccability of his conduct. A judge has to weigh his behavior beyond the trial, taking into account this norm”, – the acting Deputy Chairman of the Commission, the member of the Chamber for Selection and Public Service of Judges, co-author of the document Ms. Valentyna Ustymenko quoted the Code of Judicial Ethics during her presentation at the 2nd Workshop on the design of the model training course “Lawyer’s Professional Responsibility”, which took place on 16 March 2018.

The purpose of the workshop organized by the USAID “New Justice” Program was to discuss the draft program of the innovative training course “Lawyer’s Professional Responsibility”, to present the analysis of the key aspects of the disciplinary practice for representatives of the legal profession, in particular judges, advocates, prosecutors, notaries, as well as to draft the road map for the further course development and its implementation in the curriculum.

The representatives of the High Council of Justice, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, the Qualification-Disciplinary Commission of Prosecutors, the High Qualification-Disciplinary Commission of Advocacy, the Notary Chamber of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the legal education institutions participated in the event.

The representatives of the legal community briefed the course developers about the ethical component of the activities of a judge, a lawyer, a prosecutor, a notary, practical and theoretical aspects of the disciplinary liability of a lawyer. “If a judge behaves in good faith either in his everyday life or at work, the trust to the court will increase,” – said Mr. Sergii Prylypko, member of the Chamber for Selection and Public Service of Judges of the Commission, in his report.
