Orientation training programme for the winners of the competition to the High Anti-Corruption Court and the Appeal Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption launched

On April 1, 2019, the National School of Judges of Ukraine supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) New Justice Program, the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI), the EU Project “Pravo-Justice”, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine, the Ukrainian Canadian Judicial Reform Support Project and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) launched a three-week orientation training programme for winners of the competition for vacant positions of judges of the High Anti-Corruption Court and its Appeal Chamber called: “Anti-corruption courts and the rule of law”.

The purpose of the programme is to increase knowledge and improve skills of judges for their effective application in the proceedings on corruption crimes.

Ms. Valentyna Danishevska, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court; Mr. Sergii Koziakov, Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine; Sir Anthony Hooper, Chairman of the Public Council of International Experts;           Mr. Mykola Onishchuk, Rector of the National School of Judges of Ukraine;            Mrs. Marie L. Yovanovitch, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Ukraine; Mr. Roman Washchuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine; Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine; Mr. Kęstutis Lančinskas, Head of the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine congratulated the participants.

“You are courageous, brave and well trained. After all, you have got through the double filter of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine and the Public Council of International Experts”, Mr. Sergii Koziakov addressed to the winners of the competition.

Also, the HQCJ Chairman expressed gratitude to all donors who supported the Commission during the competition. “It was a fantastic joint work in a very short time. And we did it”, said Mr. Sergii Koziakov.

The HQCJ Chairman noticed that the HACC competition was a serious test of strength, but that stage was only the beginning of work under conditions of extreme responsibility. “I wish you to hang on psychologically and support each other, as well as health and good luck”, Mr. Sergii Koziakov wished to the future judges of the anticorruption court.

Sir Anthony Hooper stressed that Ukraine was the first sovereign state to have involved foreigners to participate in the process of selecting anticorruption court judges. The PCIE Chairman concluded his speech with the Latin phrase: “Let justice be done even though the heavens fall. You are justice. Good luck!”
