PACE requests the Venice Commission to evaluate the draft judicial reform in Ukraine
The Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has requested the opinion of the Venice Commission on recent amendments to the legislation of Ukraine governing the activity of the Supreme Court and the judiciary.
This is stated on the website of the Venice Commission.
Let us recall that last week, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, as well as European Union Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas expressed concern at the first reading of draft law No. 1008 on the activity of judicial administration, which provides for reform of the judicial system.
The draft law, in particular, provides for the reduction of the Supreme Court and a new procedure for the formation of the High Qualifications Commission of Judges of Ukraine.
