Representatives of the Commission participated in the first meeting of Steering Committee on Implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2021
On February 6, 2020, the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for 2018-2021 was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The said Action Plan is a strategic programmatic document aimed at promoting the harmonization of Ukrainian legislation, institutions and practices with European standards in the field of human rights, the rule of law and democracy, which will assist the country in fulfilling its obligations as a member state of the Council of Europe.
Through this Action Plan, the Council of Europe and Ukraine agreed, through cooperation programs, to promote the independence and effectiveness of the justice system, the harmonization of European human rights standards, the improvement of governance at all levels, the fight against corruption, the protection of prisoners' rights, the enhancement of quality and access to legal aid, protection of human rights of internally displaced persons, promotion of gender equality, etc.
The first Steering Committee is dedicated to discussing the results achieved during 2018-2019 as part of the implementation of the aforementioned Action Plan. The Parties also agreed on the priorities and objectives of cooperation between Ukraine and the Council of Europe for the 2020-2021.
Representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Supreme Court, the High Council of Justice, the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, other ministries, state bodies and non-governmental organizations participated in the event organizations and the Council of Europe.
The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine was represented by the Head of the Legal Department of the Secretariat of the Commission Natalia Kidina and the Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Division of the Secretariat of the Commission Iulia Tkachenko.
