The Chairman of the Commission met with the Rapporteur Group on democracy of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe
On 12 June 2017, the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Koziakov met with the delegation of the Rapporteur Group on democracy of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (GR-DEM), which was in Ukraine with a working visit during June 11-12, 2017.
The Rapporteur Group on democracy was represented by Ms. Laima Jureviciene, the Chairman of the group, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania to the Council of Europe, Mr. Konstantin Korkelia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the Council of Europe, Mr. Razvan Rusu Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Romania to the Council of Europe, Mr. Torbjörn Haak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Sweden to the Council of Europe, Mr. Christopher Yvon, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Council of Europe.
The Chairman of the Commission told about the peculiarities of the procedures at all stages of the competition to the Supreme Court, emphasizing their unprecedented transparency.
During the meeting, parties discussed and compared the experience of the European and North American countries in conducting a competition to the Supreme Courts. Mr. Sergii Koziakov noted that Ukraine is the first of the European countries, in which public organizations received wide opportunities to observe the competition, as well as to use the power granted by the state to influence the results of the competition to the Supreme Court.
The event was organized with the assistance and personal participation of Mr. Dmytro Kuleba, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe.
