The Chairman of the Commission spoke about judicial reform during the OSCE delegations meeting on the eve of the Permanent Council meeting

On 5 July 2017 the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Koziakov participated in the preparatory meeting with the delegations of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on the eve of its Permanent Council meeting in the Hofburg Palace (Vienna, Austria).

Chairman of the Commission arrived in Vienna at the invitation of Ambassador Mr. Vaidotas Verba, OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine.

During the event Mr. Vaidotas Verba presented 2017/1 Semiannal Report.

Simultaneously, the Chairman of the Commission Mr. Sergii Koziakov informed delegations of other OSCE member states on the progress of judicial reform in Ukraine and the first achievements and challenges that stand in the way of its implementation.

Furthermore, Mr. Sergii Koziakov drew the attention of delegations representatives that after the Constitutional amendments, the selection of judges to positions takes place only through the competition. In particular, the final stage of the competition to the positions of judges to the cassation courts in the composition of the Supreme Court is underway – the Commission holds plenary meetings on issues related to the Supreme Court candidates for whom was announced a break in connection with the Opinions of the Public Integrity Council on their inconsistency to the criteria of professional ethics and integrity.

The Chairman of the Commission also stressed that for the first time in Ukraine the Commission has organized a live broadcast of interviews on YouTube-channel for an unlimited number of observers, has published candidates' dossiers on the Commission's official website, as well as established and attracted the Public Integrity Council to the participation in administrative procedures.

Mr. Sergii Koziakov thanked the OSCE member states and the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine for the support of the Commission in carrying out judicial reform and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
