The initial qualification assessment of appellate courts judges has begun

According to paragraph 6 of Section II “Transitional Provisions” of the Law of Ukraine “On ensuring the right to a fair trial” (hereinafter the “Law”) the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (hereinafter the “Commission”) provides the initial qualification assessment of judges in order to take decisions on their ability to administer justice in appropriate courts.

By the Commission’s Decision as of 22 March 2016 No 17/zp-16, it was announced the initial qualification assessment of appellate courts judges of Kyiv city and Kyiv region.

The 1st Group of judges who will pass the initial qualification assessment of judges includes 26 judges of the Court of Appeal, Kyiv region.

On 12 April 2016 the first phase of the initial qualification assessment of judges – the test – began. Among 26 judges of this Group, as of the day of the exam 7 judges filed a resignation - their assessment by the Commission was suspended, 1 judge applied for a postponement of his assessment due to stay in the annual vacation, 1 judge was absent due to being on a sick leave.
