The meeting of Steering Committee of the EU Pravo-Justice Project was held

On July 15, 2019, the meeting of the Steering Committee of the EU Pravo-Justice Project took place.

The event was attended by representatives of Office of the President of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, High Council of Justice, High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, Supreme Court, European Commission, Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, as well as managers and experts of the Project.

During the meeting the achievements of the Project on the main directions of activity, further work plan in Ukraine, as well as the administrative and organizational issues of its implementation were discussed.

Representatives of the European Union noted the importance of preserving positive achievements of judicial reform and expressed their readiness to proceed with providing necessary support to improve certain its aspects. In particular, during the meeting, it was stated that the Pravo-Justice Project will continue cooperation with the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine and other state bodies with the aim, among other things, of improving the procedures within selection and qualification evaluation of judges. The decisive is also the Project’s support with holding evaluation of personal moral and psychological qualities and general abilities of judges (candidates for a judge’s position) – an integral part of qualification evaluation procedure.

At the end, the national partners thanked the Project for providing expert and technical support in the area of ​​judicial reform implementation and agreed on further steps to deepen cooperation.

The High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine at the event was represented by the Deputy Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the Commission’s Secretariat Yuliia Tkachenko.

EU Pravo-Justice Project, implemented with the financial support of the European Union, aims to consolidate pan-European reforms in the field of justice. A Project bringing together experts from different EU member-states will be completed by the end of 2020. The main areas of work of the Project are, among other things: assisting the state bodies of Ukraine in the process of restoration of the judicial system; selection of new judges; the creation of the Judicial Reform Council; Restructuring of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; Registry reform and e-justice; Setting up the job of probation service, etc.
