The Monitoring report of judicial independence in Ukraine was presented
December 16, 2014 the Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Ukraine Mr. Sergii Koziakov took part in the round table "Presentation and discussion of the results of the monitoring of judicial independence in Ukraine."
The Centre for Judicial Studies with the assistance of the Council of Judges of Ukraine introduced the monitoring of judicial independence in Ukraine, conducted in September and October 2014 in the framework of the Council of Europe Project on "Strengthening the independence, efficiency and professionalism of the judiciary in Ukraine" supported by the Government of Sweden.
It was presented the monitoring report prepared on the basis of interviewing the judges, lawyers and representatives of the public concerning observance of the constitutional principle of judicial independence in Ukraine.
The participants of the round table shared their views as to the recommendations presented by the experts. The issues of institutional, procedural, personal independence of judges, career promotion and discipline responsibility of judges were discussed.
Mr. Sergii Koziakov stated that the results of the monitoring report will be used in the activity of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine as high as possible.
The Chairman of the Commission extended his appreciation to the Director of the Centre for Judicial Studies Mrs. Natalia Vereshchinska for the work done.
Mr. Christos Giakoumopoulos the Director of the Directorate of Human Rights of the Council of Europe, the Special Adviser to the Secretary General noted about the importance of the monitoring report in the further reforming of the judicial system.
