The officials of the Secretariat of the Commission attended the conference "Strengthening the capacity of the judiciary in Eastern Europe"
On 11-15 May 2015 Ukrainian delegation took part in the conference “Strengthening the capacity of the judiciary in Eastern Europe", held in Bucharest (Romania). The event was held with the support of the USAID FAIR Justice Project and the Expert Forum of Romania under the Black Sea Trust for Regional Cooperation.
The conference was attended by the representatives of the judiciary of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova. The Ukrainian delegation included representatives of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, the High Council of Justice of Ukraine, the Interim Commission for verification judges of courts of general jurisdiction, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the Council of Judges of Ukraine, the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine.
The conference participants considered several issues regarding the role of the judicial authorities in preventing and fighting corruption, particularly, for development and implementation of strategies to prevent and fight corruption and for preparation of training programs on these issues. They also discussed the peculiarities for reviewing such cases in the court.
The specialized anti-corruption agencies, operating in Romania, were also presented during the conference. The speakers told about the structure, competence and results of the agencies’ activity, informed about the typology of the corruption cases of high-level and the review of cases of illegal enrichment, conflict of interest and cases regarding the abusing incompatibility of duties.
Within the program of the conference the delegates visited key judicial institutions and anti-corruption agencies of Romania, heard the representatives of the National Institute of Magistracy, the High Court of Cassation and Justice of Romania, the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, the National Integrity Agency, the Supreme Council of Magistracy and the Ministry of Justice of Romania.
