The results of the first year of work of the High Anti-Corruption Court were presented at a regular meeting of representatives of international assistance projects on strengthening the Rule of Law

On August 02, 2020, a regular meeting of representatives of international assistance projects on strengthening the Rule of Law took place within online mode, organized by the USAID New Justice Program.

The representatives of the Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, the High Council of Justice, the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, the Supreme Court, the High Anti-Corruption Court, the Council of Judges of Ukraine, public and international organizations and international technical assistance projects took part in the event.

The Chairwoman of the High Anti-Corruption Court Olena Tanasevych addressed the participants of the event and presented the results of the first year of the court’s work and plans for future development.

Thus, Mrs. Tanasevych reported that more than thirteen thousand court hearings had been appointed by investigating judges and panels of judges during the year. At the same time, the Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court received 955 appeals against court verdicts and rulings of investigating judges, of which approximately 70 cases remain unresolved to date. The Chairwoman of the Court pointed out that due to the quarantine restrictions, almost 400 court hearings were not held, the circumstances of non-consideration of which depended neither on the judges nor on the parties of the case.  However, the judges continue to work in a standard mode to administer justice.

In addition, Mrs. Tanasevych noted that due to the excessive workload, there is a need to increase the number of investigating judges from nine to eleven or twelve.

The speech was accompanied by a question and answer session. Participants also exchanged news in the field of justice and talked about current and planned activities aimed at strengthening the Rule of Law.

The Secretariat of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine was represented by the Head of the Legal Department of the Secretariat of the Commission Natalia Kidina and Acting Head of the International Cooperation Department of the Secretariat of the Commission Denys Kuznetsov.
