
On September 07, Vitalii Gatseliuk, member of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine, took part in a dialogue entitled “Judicial Power on the Path to European Integration: Between Dignity and Survival,” organised at the initiative of Denys Maslov, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Taras Kachka and representatives of the judiciary discussed the independence of the judiciary in the context of adequate provision, institutional capacity building, accountability as an element of public trust, as well as aspects of integrity and disciplinary responsibility.
During the session “Strengthening the capacity of the judiciary: accountability, integrity, and disciplinary responsibility”, Vitalii Gatseliuk outlined the practical steps taken by the Commission to implement the Roadmap on the Rule of Law, which defines a set of reforms within the framework of the negotiation process on Ukraine’s membership in the EU. As the Commission member noted, when formulating international commitments, it is necessary to constantly consult and build a constructive dialogue with the judicial branch of government, which is directly involved in the implementation of the Roadmap.
In addition to representatives of the High Council of Justice, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the Supreme Court and the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, judges and employees of local and appellate courts from various regions of Ukraine also expressed their opinions.
The event was organised by the public organisation “Analytical and Educational Center ”Stable Justice” on the platform of the Serhii Nyzhnyi Kyiv School of Public Administration.
